Fabra i Coats: Fàbrica de Creació
During the first four months of my residence at Fabra i Coats, I conducted my Bachelor's final project, which resulted in a process-based installation which was developed in a specific space within the 2nd floor of the building, where resident artists are invited to work in. In this final project, I wanted to continue and explore more throughout my methodology, which is directly intertwined with the produced work. In other words, instead of having an initial idea and then figuring out how to explain it, for me, what is being explained is constructed simultaneously with how it is being done. I start from a foundation where I have worked with different languages throughout my career: video, textiles, objects, drawing, etc., and this is the moment when I made the leap to working with space. Working with audiovisual media is not the same as working with objects, and it is through the interaction with the medium itself (objects, space) that the narrative is constructed.
To build a narrative through space, one must understand the characteristics of the space, so as not to turn it exclusively into an exhibition space. In other words, the space should not only be a place where pieces are displayed to be seen, but the space and the body that occupies it should become part of the artwork. This specific narrative can only occur in this particular space because it means that the narrative is not formed through the pieces alone but through their relationships with the space. In this way, by playing with the creation of narratives among the space, the bodies, low- cost materials, found and accumulated objects over the years, etc., is how the installation has been constructed. It is a dialogue between what already exists (the material conditions) and what could be (imagination and the projection of ideas).
